Contemporary Dance Choreographer

Tara had studied for 6 years, as well as attending various performing arts schools throughout her childhood.

Her studies began in Poole College, where it was fate that she was enlisted on to the National Diploma of Dance. At the time of enrolment, this course was full and did not accept any new students. Until, 3 days before the start of the course, she was asked for an interview as there was an extra space available due to a student dropping out. It was clear that dance was meant to be play a huge role in her life.

This course taught many styles, with Contemporary Dance being the main focus; a style that was already known and preferred to Tara. It was here that she learnt to be confident within herself and started to gain an understanding of how her body moves.

Choosing a university was very difficult to her. She had applied to many universities and had been accepted. Eventually, Bournemouth University was chosen as she decided that it would be beneficial for her to progress with teachers that knew her so well. This was only a Foundation Degree which meant it was soon time to move to another university for the final. third year to complete her degree.

The university of Winchester was the venue for the last year of her studies. She had had an audition here previously and was accepted and was thought of very highly. Winchester had many dancers that taught the students that were currently in well known dance companies and were very strict at times. Including Paul Jackson, a man that had trained with the great Martha Graham. Ballet and Graham technique played a strong influence on the style held at Winchester which was a refreshing addition to the release technique which was Bournemouth's signature technique. With these styles, Tara was able to understand the strictness of Graham and even Cunningham, whilst blending the freedom of Release together to merge her own body's natural movement. A Bachelor of Arts Degree in Choreography and dance was received at the University of Winchester in 2009. An accomplishment, and fate.

Throughout her studies, she worked with many dance practitioners for work and voluntary. This gave her the opportunity to realise the pressures and the rewards of the dance world. It was of no doubt that this was the world that she wanted to take part in.

All areas of dance had been explored, to stage performances, to teaching children with disabilities, to teaching a dance school and even being a dance mentor for dance professionals.

However, it was very early in her studies that she's had realised that choreography came very naturally to her in all styles, but Contemporary was the favourite. This styles suits her body and looks effortless. This combined with an inventive mind, creates diverse and exciting choreography. To prove that this was true, an award was given to her a little after her graduation by Winchester University for most inventive choreography.

Now, Tara is professionally teaching Contemporary dance classes for intermediate dancers, as well as teaching Modern dance in schools. Also, she uses dance methods to instruct exercise classes. Alongside this, currently material is being created for stage and camera performances.

Many, many more projects are on the way.
